PODCAST: ARGENTINE HORROR CINEMA

Dr. Scahill returned as a special guest scholar this month on the Scream Kings podcast with hosts Max George and Nathaniel Darkish. This episode they analyze the 2017 Argentine horror film Aterrados [translation: The Terrified], an unsettling take on the paranormal investigator narrative. The film draws liberally from American horror films like Poltergeist, Pet Sematary, Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Conjuring, leading Prof. Scahill to propose that the film is offering a meta-critique of the horror cinema itself and the challenge of non-Western genre cinema to compete against the juggernaut of American film production--a cinema literally haunted by Hollywood horror.
