2019 OSCARS PREDICTION PANEL
There were no shortage of topics to cover at this year's annual Oscars Prediction Panel at the SIE FilmCenter. From the ousting of host Kevin Hart for homophobic comments to the teased removal of several awards from the official telecast, the panel had much to consider in addition to this years' contentious races. Dr. Scahill was joined by local Denver Post journalists Lisa Kennedy and John Wenzel and Denver Film Society director Britta Erickson to give their thoughts on who should (and who will) take home Hollywood's biggest prize.
The panelists largely agreed on the Supporting Actor and Actress bids, giving nods to Mahershala Karim-Ali and Regina King, respectively. The panel also predicted Glenn Close and Rami Malek to win for their strong performances in otherwise underwhelming film (The Wife and Bohemian Rhapsody). The panel split on the top awards, with each panelist selecting a different winner for Best Picture. For his part, Dr. Scahill predicted Roma will take home the Oscar for Best Picture (though he found BlackKklansman to be a superior film) and hoped that Spike Lee would finally earn his first Best Director award from the Academy.
