Andrew Scahill is honored to serve as Guest Editor for this special issue of Literature/Film Quarterly, the longest-running international journal for the study of adaptation. For over forty years, LFQ has been on the forefront of scholarship on the complexities of adaptation, and this issue examines an often-neglected area of adaptation: the audience. In this special issue on "Audiences and Adaptation," the authors ask how we might theorize the spectator in relation to adaptations, the labor of fans in creating their own adaptations, and the economic dimensions of selling adaptations to audiences. In the guest editorial, Scahill explains how a trip to the Stanley Hotel (Stephen King's inspiration for the The Shining) helped him shape this issue, as it offered a chance to see how audiences interacted with a physical location that is both a source text and an adaptation of Kubrick's film.
