CLASS FILMED FOR HORROR FILM DOCUMENTARY
On April 4, Dr. Andrew Scahill was interviewed and his Horror Cinema class filmed for the upcoming documentary Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street. The film explores the curious queer afterlife of Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985), considered by many to “the gayest horror film ever made.” Part video essay, part historiography, part character investigation, the documentary talks to the filmmakers, fans, and its star, Mark Patton, who was wrestling with his sexuality during the production of the film. Dr. Scahill was chosen for the documentary based upon his work on queerness in the horror film.
Prof. Scahill's students were very excited for this unique opportunity to be part of a lasting document of their time in class at Salisbury University. Said director Tyler Jensen, "I was impressed in the discussion with the students who were very engaged in the film and trying to understand the many viewpoints being presented. A lot of them brought up things we hadn't even considered yet. It truly made Roman and I very excited and giddy to be in that room and witness a such a wonderful dissection of the film." The documentary is on track to be completed in 2017.
